A few weeks ago there was a mishap at NAS Pensacola when an F/A-18F Super Hornet had an incident where the tires bursted upon landing. Well at one of the boards I am more of a lurker on, someone posted a picture of an obese man sitting on the tire of an F/A-18. They claimed that he was the reason for the tires exploding and a few people had to just pile on with more jokes about his weight. The gentleman in the picture is actually a member of the board and responded to the post saying that he knew about his weight issues and was working with his doctor. I don't know if the original thread starter knew this man was a member of the forum or not but he apologized and said that no harm was intended.
I understand that in most situations like this, no harm is intended. It just drives me crazy though that there is a double standard when it comes to dealing with people who are over weight. It's not funny to make fun of someone due to health, disease, deformity, education, race, addictions etc. etc. It is some how funny, however, to make fun of someone due to the fact that they have a health issue intertwined with an addiction called obesity.
Am I taking this to far or do you guys have similiar feelings?
you are not taking it to far.
i have been told all my life i was fat. at 16 i was 6 ft tall, weighed 265. after all the tests were done, they determined i had less than 15% body fat, and was actually underweight.
now at 50, i am still 6 ft tall have a 22 inch neck, and am 28 inches across the shoulders, 40 inches at the waist, and weigh 280lbs. i am constantly told i am fat by everyone but my doctor.

No, you are not. But what we are dealing with in our society is people are losing an attribute called empathy. Too many today just say what they are thinking, when in reality, the words should be restrained....
Dehumanizing and meanspirited actions today are viewed daily as "humor" . Think not ? Well, maybe I am just another half full glass of it. But , look at what the top seller movies sell as entertainment. Look at the electronic games. nuff said.
