I have 2, 04 F-350's with 6.0s. Mine is a C/C long bed dually and has clearance lights on the cab. My wifes is a C/C long bed srw and has no clearance lights but she wants them. Does anyone know if the factory runs the wiring for them in the overhead even if the lights are not installed or will I have to install the wiring kit also?
My truck did not have them either,... I purchased the original lights and harness from Ford, and had it done within a couple of hours, it does require some careful planning and mechanical ability, and there was some helpful info on here somewhere with the measurements for layout and drill sizes, etc....the hardest part for me was drilling into perfectly good sheet metal!! total price for harness and lights was around $110.00.
My F250 didn't have the clearance lights either when I got the truck. I installed them on my previous truck so I knew what had to be done. But I did not go out and buy the harness. All you need is about 10 feet of wire and that runs from the headlight assembly switch to the farthest clearance light. All you do is tap each red wire (from each light) into this single wire. The grounds attach right to the body from the light mounting screws. Oh, and soldering each connection is smart so that you would never have to drop the headliner again due to a bad connection.

This might be so on aftermarket lights, but on OE Ford lights there is no wire on the light itself. The lights have a connector requiring a special plug. If you are installed OE parts I would strongly recommend that you get the ford harness, it is not very expensive and will fit right in place and make the install professional.
some guy posted a while ago that Cabellas sells factory clearance lights for chevy, ford & dodge & he said that the harness plugged into the factory module behind the passenger kick panel. The kit that cabellas sells doesnt say that. The kit is $45.00 from Cabellas.

Reason: I tried to find his post so I could send him a PM on this but without the SEARCH function working it might take years to find it!!!!!!!!!!Having no SEARCH function sucks ass!!!!
I also installed my own cab clearance lights on my truck last winter. I bought the wiring harness and lights from the ford dealer. I am pretty sure it cost me somewhere around $80 for the lights and harness. Fortunately for me I use my neighbors truck to take all of my measurements. The hardest part of the job is making sure all of measurments are accurate becuase you don't want to have your lights off-center. First of all make sure you someone else to watch the placement of your lights from the ground so you dont need to hoppong on off the roof like a monkey. I removed the headliner from my truck which exposed the roof and my truck actually had the mounting holes for the wiring harness clips. It took my neighbor and I several hours to complete the prooject but it was well worth my time. If you have any black silicone sealant (found at most auto parts stores) I would put a little of that around the gasket on the cab lights for extra protection from the elements. Good luck wil your install.
did mine last week. Bought a set from advance auto, 19.99. Ran a single wire up to them, spliced each one in, and tapped into the parklight wire coming from the switch. Looks great!
Thanks for all the return info from everyone, I've been wanting to do this for my wife's 350 but didn't know about the harness. I know years back they used to run harness's and if build sheet called for a light they just plugged it in. I didn't want to go to do the job and not find a harness in the overhead. I'll just put this on my todo list. Got it easy because I can measure my dually lights for a pattern.
Thanks Big Red 5205
do yourself a favor and get the factory ford lights and harness you will be much more happy with the finished look.
since you have another truck to go buy don’t measure a damn thing, (this is what I did) take the other trucks lights off and get some poster board that you can make one solid piece out of, lay it over the roof use the blunt side of a pen or something and trace the top of the windshield and doors into the poster board then cut it out. put it back on the truck to make sure it fits and tape it in place so it doesn’t move on you... then take that poker of yours (pen or whatever) and poke some holes in you poster board through the holes in your roof. presto you have a template to just lay on your other truck put some dots on it and start drilling. you can put tape down to help the pait from chpping up or just use some turbomax bits for the small holes and use a step drill for the big hole. also might want to put some grease or prime the edges after you drill so they dont rust... have fun

True. And I hear that the OEM harness is pretty cheap. I agree, if you get the OEM lights, then it would be smart to use the OEM harness while you're at it. Makes everything factory.
How much trouble is removing the headliner? I have been wanting to put clearance lights on my truck but I really hate tearing interior apart and putting it back together.
