Its really not that hard at all. First of all you need to remove the a-pillars, upper door trim, and the handles/coat hangers. Once those are out of the way go ahead and pop your clips out of the headliner making sure not to break any because it would stink if you had to delay the reassembly due those cheap plastic clips. Make sure you are gentle with liner and DON'T bend it otherwise you hcould get a nasty looking crease in it. If I missed anything feel free to chime in. Other than that, there is the removal in a nut shell.
My experience with removing the headliner: On my last F250 which was a Supercab, I was able to completely remove the headliner with the doors opened. But with my present F250 which is a Crewcab, I couldn't see any easy way of getting the headliner out of the cab without having to either bend it (which will cause that ugly wrinkle) or to remove the rear glass. For the clearance light installation, you don't have to remove the headliner completely out of the cab. I was able to run the wiring with it kind of just hanging down. Then just reinstall it once the wiring is finished.
Big Red, you will defiently want to go with the OEM harness and the OEM lights. Ed at http://www.discountfordpartsaty2kford.com/ has the best prices you'll find anywhere. If you ask him he'll even send you the measurements needed also. But since you have your truck to go by, then by all means just remove your lights and use some heavy construction paper and make a template and then transfer to your wife's truck.
A real handy tool to have is a "knock-out". When you drill the big hole for the plug do it in 3 steps, increasing the hole size till you get to 3/4" then you will put the knock-out in, tighten it down and presto you have the perfect size hole and it's really clean.
The harness comes with fasteners on it that will pop into pre-drilled holes along the passenger A-pillar. The harnesss plugs into a plug behind the passenger kick panel,
Expect to spend a few hours doing this. Also, measure, remeasure, take a step back for a few minutes and then recheck it again befor committing to drilling the holes. Nothing is worse than having the holes off. You'll be drilling 5 large holes for the plugs and 10 holes for the studs. Seeing all those holes is scary!!
Thanks for the replies about the headliner removal. I've put the lights on older trucks but not a Superduty. I get a nice weekend and mine will have Clearance lights. The knock-out is a really good idea for the big holes. I've used a step drill in the past but I'll use a knock-out tool this time. Thanks!

*******--thanks for the great tip!!!!! Going through Millennium Ford saved me over $225 dollars on a set of OEM fog lights and a set of OEM cab clearance lights. I still can't get over what Worthington Ford wanted for these parts. Here's the ugly break down.
Worthington Ford, Anchorage AK:
Cab Light Asy (X5) $14.64/ea
Cab Light Wire Harness $44.82
OEM Fog Light Set $344.50
Millennium Ford, Seattle WA:
Cab Light Asy (X5) $6.76/ea
Cab Light Wire Harness $22.60
OEM Fog Light Set $224.68
It's rather amazing how much of a discount you can get from just about any Ford dealer, I think. But usually only if you are a reseller or repair shop.
I used to buy body parts for my '74 highboy from 112 Ford in Patchogue, on Long Island. I setup an account with them for my sister's marine parts wholesale business on the premise that they would buy Ford parts for OMC and other marine motors.
The discount we got was better than 50% on most stuff, I saved a huge amount of money. So, I could buy body parts like a hood that would have cost $400 or so (IIRC) and pay less than $200. It didn't stay that way for long, after a while, the computer wasn't giving me such great discounts anymore. I think they found I wasn't moving enough volume to qualify for those steep discounts.
Now, they had a huge parts department, so they were probably getting discounts on stuff direct from Ford, so I don't know what any "regular" dealer could do, but there's still a lot of wiggle room on the price.
discountfordpart is giving you what looks like around 30% discount off of list. That's very good for retail.

Glad I could be of some help. I will talk up anybody that treats me right. I just can't understand that when the lights are as "popular" as they are, they don't order the trucks with them. My truck my only be a SRW, but it has the towing package and the snow plow package...seems to me a few more lights to make the truck more visible makes sense. Heck, as a factory option it's only about $55. But to buy them over the counter at or near $200 is just crazy. I also recently added the upfitter switches to my truck. Without even considering the "local" dealer I went straight to Ed at Millennium Ford.
But anyway, again glad I could help you out.
The cab lights are DONE!!! Took about 3 hours and I'm sure glad I went with the EOM lights and harness. Talk about easy. Thanks again for all the help.
Ok, dumb question time. What do you do with the clearance lights? I didn't want a truck with them because I thought the amber would drive me crazy reflecting off my truck camper.
