I am thinking that the PO may have changed out the rear axle on my 77 F150 2wd truck. I found some wax crayon markings on the rear brake drum, like you might find in a wrecking yard. The writing I could make out was 1983 Ford and the tag on the differential housing read: WDM-BV4 7CE 2.75 9 351A. I am pretty sure this is a Ford 9" axle w/ a 2.75:1 ratio,am I correct? What else can you guys tell me from the numbers I gave you? Thanks.

I mistakenly wrote above that the wax crayon markings on the brake drum said it was a 1983 and I just looked again and I found it really says 1986 Ford. I also noticed that the rear rubber brake line I purchased for my 77 F150 2wd truck is not the same as the one currently on my mystery rearend. The one on the rearend now is bolted directly on to the axle housing and has a vent hose coming straight out from the fitting andthe one I purchased for the 77 does not have a vent hose. Can anyone verify that I have a 1986 9" rearend or at least tell me where I can find out? Thanks.
I'm pretty sure that all of the rear rubber brake hoses from the frame to the axle are bolted to the axle and the bolt that hold hose with the block end has a hole through the center of the mounting bolt and that is what the vent hose attaches to.
Just comapare the different years at the local parts store and see what ya got.
I solved the mystery axle issue, by talking to the previous owner about the writing on one of the rear brake drums. He said he bought the drums at a salvage yard, so I believe I have the original Ford 9" rear end that came with the truck. The ratio I found on the axle tag matched the ratio I deciphered from the door plate code (13). As for the rear brake hose difference I mentioned above, I found a one that looked similar to the one on my axle on Napaonline and it was for the 4x4 version of my truck. I think the one I ordered from NPD for my 2wd 77 F150 will work just fine, it just concerned me that it did not look the same as the one I had and when I found the writing on one of my brake drums it set me on a wild goose chase :-).
