I have a flywheel that is cracked even after being machined. I can't find any new replacements for my 352. All I can find are ones listed for 360 or 390. What kind of problems will I run into if I try to use one of those? Thanks!
Besides the neutral balance that 390fe mentioned, the only other things I know of to watch is the tooth count on the ring gear, and the mounting holes for the clutch pressure plate.
I don't remember the specifics, but Ford changed the tooth count in '64 or '65. The difference is enough to eat starter drive gears. IIRC, there are only two choices for a tooth count on the FE, don't remember the numbers, can't search yet.
I don't know how many different clutch diameters Ford used on FEs, but I did manage to get a different hole spacing when I had to replace my flywheel. At that time my best solution was to exchange the new clutch I had for a smaller, lighter, cheaper one. The clutch has been complaining ever since.
I knew I'd forget something important, like ring gear tooth count and clutch mounting hole location...
The good news is that the ring gear can be changed. But the mounting holes can't. Your best bet is to get a flywheel for your particular diameter clutch, and if your ring gear is in good shape, have it put on the new flywheel.
The clutch for a 352 should be a 10 spline 11 incher. Ring gear changed in 1965...with the introduction of the 352 into trucks. Both the flywheel and Bendix drive are different than 1964 V8's...which used a 292 Y block.
I'd better get busy and find my old microfisch slides so I can be of further assistance, as I can't recall the ring gear or flywheel full part numbers for a 352/360/390...dang it.

Sure do...we moved out here 5 years ago..the machine is in the garage...the slides (1965-72 and 1973-79 trucks, 1965-72 cars) are still packed away someplace. I also have parts books for 1960-64 cars, since I own two '63 Galaxies.
I also have Studebaker parts books 1958-1966..and Packard parts books 1935-56.
Wow Bill that's an outstanding collection I'd say!!! That pales my collection by a long shot!!! And 2 63 Gals!!! Sweet! That was my favorite year!
If I need some part numbers can you help me? I need to see if some numbers I have were changed or if there is another service part number they might be under. Mostly 427 tunnelport stuff. I'd gladly pay you for the time and info. My sources are limited on these parts and numbers.

Tell us more about the Gals you have....

When I find the slides, the viewer will be on the same table as the 'puter.
Any research I do will be free to anyone on this forum.I never charged anyone for research, in 35 years behind the counter..so I ain't gonna start now.
I do not have an O.S.I. book, however. OSI stands for: Obsolete; Supercede; Interchange. Maybe one of the stores around LA might have an extra...I'll check.
However, I doubt there will be too many numbers updated on 427 parts..except what pertains to the early 63-64 engines.
I should have the set up ready in 2 or 3 weeks...I love research....whether cars/trucks or Winchester firearms.
1963 Ford Galaxie 500 XL HT. Rose Beige; 352, cruiso, p/s, p/b...mostly original.
1963 1/2 Ford Galaxie 500 XL FB Wimbleton White; 390, cruiso, p/s, p/b..all original.
Both cars are original CA cars...the FB has its original 1963 black plates.
