Exclamation royalvil

I have a 65 f100. I want to take the fuel tank out of the cab. I am wondering if anyone knows or tried to put a rear aux. tank out of the 73-79 era in the back of a 65 or 66 truck. I thought if the brackets fit in and of course the tank, I would put the fuel door inside the bed on the side panel. Looking for some feed back. thanks

Royal Welcome to FTE, The nations #1 truckstop for truck tech support.

You didn't say why you wanted it out of the cab. They are pretty safe, but if it's gotta go, it's gotta go.

The short answer is no. There are some late 60s and early 70s Mustang tanks that will fit between the frame rails. You can mount some later year tanks under the frame rails by being creative.

Hi John, The tank wants to leak out the fuel cap on sharp turns to the right when it is full. You also can't park it on a slant to the left in the sun or it will do it again. I put a new cap on and it is better but it still does it. I have a 66 stepside that acts the same way. So maybe I will look for a stang gas tank. Thanks Royalvil

In a recent post, someone claimed that you could get a cap that would stop the gas from coming out of the filler.

From my 40 or so years of experence, never fill it up without driving 3 or more gallons out, and don't park it drivers side down in the summer time. I don't have issues following that regiment.

If you're thinking about instaling a Mustang tank, here's a link to an excellent article on this site about doing just that. I'm planning on doing this as well for the extra cab room. The article is written in reference to a 53 F100, but would be very similar in setup. I also has info on different tanks that would work well and cap options.
