I have a 83 F150 flareside with 302 c.i. , AOD transmission. The following electrical items are brand new battery, starter, solenoid, voltage regulator, and alternator. I have a situation of intermittent no start. When you turn the key it is if the battery is totally dead. Engine does not turn over when this occurs. Any ideas.
If the batery isnt dead is there power going the solenoid. The solenoid could be defeective if iit has power to the S terminal when in start position. If no power to S terminal the ignition switch may need adjusted or be defective.
Do you have power to the rest of the vehicle in the key-on/engine off position?
Could be the nuetral safety switch has an intermitant bad connection.
The ignition switch under the steering collum would be my first check, after years of wear the rod from the tumbler may not be pushing it all the way to "start". Do you normaly have to turn the key hard to get it to start?
Electrical ignition switch under column.....NOT Key Ignition switch. Drop column, locate elec. Ign. SW. remove the two screws, replace rod in same hole has it was when you removed it from. Start an enjoy.
