I apologize in advance for the lack of search tool?
I have noticed an increase in the rattle under my drivers side floor board. Ball joints and shocks are new and tight. Im suspecting its likley the sway bar bushings but am wondering if there is a better aftermarket option to avoid premature reacurance.Or perhaps it is something else?
I had a rattle on my last truck that drove me NUTS until I figured out it was the top shell of the RF shock was loose on the shoulder. I could hear it popping over every bump in the road. A short tack weld later and the front end sounded as solid as a rubber ball going over bumps.
DISLFVR and Kwik hit the two most likely causes.
Check the shocks first. If all is good there, remove the sway bar completely and test drive.
If still noisy, a body mount might be the next place to look

be sure to double check the mounts of any "TUBE STEPS or RUNNING BOARDS" you may have on the truck. I and a friend chased down just such a demon less than six months ago, and it turned out to be a missing washer on one of the bolts holding his tube step to the frame was causing it to pop, rattle and squeak even...
I just replaced my ball joints and tightened my shocks today. The evident bad ball joints problem is fixed but there is still some noise over bumpy roads.
Just wanted to check if the noises that you all are talking about are constant or only over bumps and jacked roads?
climb under your truck, grab the sway bar and jerk on it. If it moves, you need to replace the bushings ($15 each at ford dealership). Just did mine this morning, no more rattle. Feels as solid as it did when I drove it off the lot.
I just replace my sway bar bushings and Oh my what a huge difference it made with that clunking noise, I was so impressed I dragged my wife for a ride!
I got mine from Suspension Restoration, I think its www.suspension.com it was $40 For a complete set of poly bushings, that includes the ones on the axle, and both bushings for each end link. Before I knew better, I purchases new ones from the dealer, just for them to wear out early.... It might not be as big a deal if you just cruise on paved roads, but if you hit the dirt, then you should look at poly. BTW the customer service at Suspension Restoration is great, I bought 3 sets, and they mis shipped one set, within the week I had the right set, and a rma label, with minimal time on the telephone. Good people.
If everything is tight etc.. can the bearings for the FWD shafts be out or going bad ??
How hard are these to change ?? And how in the world do you check them ??
My sway bar was tight as well, but once I took it off the truck, the rattle/noise went away. I kinda figured it would as looking at the bushings they were definately worn and in need of replacement.

Generally, when the inner axle bearings go bad, it causes a terrible vibration when driving. I doubt that it is the problem rattle.
It is the sway bar links.
Especially that annoying one under your left foot.
It is really just the bushings in the links, but Ford only sells them as the unit.
Get Energy Suspension poly replacrment bushings and you'll be good for a long long long time.
Get the end link bushings and the sway bar to axle bushings too.
You won't regret it.
