I have a stock 1958 F-100 with manual steering, 223 and stock 3-speed trans.I am thinking of buying P205-75-R15 tires to keep the narrow tire look and maybe improve steering ease. Any thoughts? Would I be better off with a wider tire for handling? If so, what do you recommend. All opinions appreciated. Thanks!
I would definately go with the narrow tires for original equipment. I've been looking for tire now for around 4 months. Just looking for the best deals. I found COSTCO had the best deals around. Mounting and balancing are included in the price.
under $400 on 4 31"x 10.5" on 15's
I know they got the tires you're looking for if you got a COSTCO near you.
You can also go with some super skinny military tires. Those would look real cool.
We have a 60 F100 and have been running P215/75/15 on the front. It has 223, 3 speed and manual steering. These tires have the narrow look but are a little taller and wider than 205's. I'm running 31x10.50/15 on the rear and they fill the fender quite nicely.
I like that skinny military idea. I currently have Armstrong 7.00x15 tube-types which came off a 75 F100 used by the US Airforce over here in Germany (that's where I live). The overall diameter mounted on (what I believe are) 6x15 wheels is 28 3/4 Inch and the thread width is just 5 1/2 Inch. That's just the look I want for my 54 F100 and I wonder since some time what size tube-less radial would give me the same diameter with a similar narrow thread width. Any idea ? I guess 215/75s are or 205/70 won't do it. Unfortunately I guess I won't get US Military tires over here easily.
Charles, the rear tires are radial Sears Trailhandler 31x10.50R15LT. The wheels are 10" wide rims, Cragar chrome steel,I don't know the backspacing or the name of the style offhand but they are deep dish. It looks to be 4.5" backspace(they don't extend past the brakes on the inside, I just went out with a tape measure so it may not be exact). Just get the style you like. Yhe truck has a shortbed Flairside and the fenders are filled up to what I think looks good. The 215s on the front make steering pretty easy and the "fat & skinny" look makes it look like it COULD be a rod.
