I was told here that my frame mounts from my 6cly would be the same for when i put in my 302 all I would need to do is move them back to the next hole, well that didnt work, we moved them back to where they said the 460 holes would be but had to drill a couple of them, well its still not back far enough!!! Is anyone sure what I need to do? Maybe they gave me the wrong motor mounts at the store, or do I need to buy new frame mounts? A picture of a 302 in a 73-79 truck would be appreciated! Thanks for the help everyone.
300-6 frame mounts are not the same as a 302. They are the same as the FE. A 460 through use of adapter motor mounts can be done using 302 frame mounts. That's what Jeff's bronco graveyard, Performance-Unlimited, and others sell. I doubt your local parts store has these in stock, as stock 460 mounts don't work with 302 frame mounts. And even then, a 2wd frame mount has to match a 2wd motor mount, and the same goes for 4x4's with theirs.
Well that explains it....Someone here I dont remember told me that they were the same, but anyways I got the thing to fit. I put the frame mounts as far back as I could and cut the bolt off my engine mounts and put them on and marked where the bolt would be needed and took them back off. I drill out a hole and used a grade 8 bolt and put it all back on and it works. The only thing is that the engine mount has the bolt at the front of the mount instead of the center of it. But all in all I got the motor in and all I got to do now is figure out my headers and hook up all the things.
