i tried to search but couldn't find any info to help me out. i picked up a 2001 excurtion about a week ago from a friend. when i test dove it, both front seat heaters worked. when i picked it up two days later, they both do not work. also, none of the door locks work, they all make noise and try to move the lock down, but won't pull them all the way down. I just wanted to know if that means the motors are weak, or could it be something else.
with the heated seats, i'd like to knwo where to start. it seams odd that both would just stop working. sounds like a fuse or relay. (i didn't get a owners manual either so i dno't know what fuse to check. ) the light on the heated seat switches DOES light up. but no heat.
the door lock actuators on our trucks are known to go bad. some rebuild, and some just replace them. if you do a search, you should be able to find a thread around here that has all the info you need with a ton of pics to help you through the replacement procedure.
thank you! i'm glad to know that someone else has had the problem first. helps with me fixing mine. racerx, do you have any pictures of your excursion with 22"s??
sure do, check out my gallery. there are a bunch of pics inside and out. the only thing that changed in the last 2 weeks was that i removed the chrome mirrors and replaced them with the factory chrome mirrors with signals.
when you replaced the mirriors with with the ones with turn signals in them, was the wiring there? or did you have to wire them to get them to work?? I have the regular power heated tow mirrors, but i'd like the same ones with turn signals in them.
by the way the truck looks awsome, was teh bumber and headlights hard to switch over from a 2006?
my X came with the paddle mirrors with power heat and signals. when i switched to the tow mirrors with power and heat (the ones in my gallery pics), i lost the signals. then when i got the new signal mirrors, all the wiring was already there except fot the running light part. all i did for that was tap into the blue wire which is on the power door lock switch. thats the one that lights the lock switch. that way, no wiring through the doors.
as far as the 06 conversion, total time was about 2.5 hours. all blots up easily. if you are serious, i can get into the swap in more detail. send me a pm if you really need to.
I just fixed all five locks on my 00 X with the tin foil method. Didn't cost a dime and all of them work better than new. Look at the stickies and it will show you how to do it. Make sure you pull out the resistor and wrap it. Now on to my driver heated seat.
Hello everybody. I am new to Ford Truck Enthusiasts. I have 2001X and would like to know about the tin foil method to fix the door locks. I do enjoy this site very much. Thank you all .
Timsx- I know you are new but next time you can post a new thread and you will get answers to your own question. This is a discussion on someones heated seats and locks.
all the fuses are good. and the door locks all make noise when i push the button, but they do not go all the way down. kinda like a weak motor or corrosion.
The "Tin Foil" method involves wrapping a resistor in the motor of the lock actuaries. If you read in the tech folders of excusions, it will tell you how to get into them. There is a thread in the super duty section that has pictures that will also help. All 5 of mine did exactly what yours did. It took me 2 hours and a little bit of tin foil and all 5 of mine work awesome. I didn't believe it would work until I did it myself. It really isn't that hard either. First on took about 30 minutes and the next 4 took about 15 minutes each. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks Nate
actually that does sound like a good idea versus the $60 apiece for new motors. Do you have a link for the pictures?? or do i just search in the superduty forum? how long have the door locks for your excursion been workign since you did the repair?
