I used a combination of the tech folder intructions on in this forum and searched the one in Superduty...it may be in their tech folder also, I'm not sure. I did mine a couple of months ago. I popped the resistor out in the motor and wrapped it a couple of time in tin foil. They lock and pop solid. They (an elec engineer) explain why the motors go out in the super duty thread. Make sense to me. They work awesome and like I said above, I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't done it myself. The internet is AWESOME!
The tech folders are at the top of every forum.....like stickys that don't move. The search function is down except for full (paying) users until some new equipment (servers) are installed.
Not a problem at all. Let me know if you have more questions. I can talk you through it also if you need it. It is an awesome fix. I promise you will be so stoked about fixing them for free. The one thing that I didn't put above was that I pried open the plastic rivets but left the metal ones in and got the motor to come out. I then used a zip ty to lock it back up. Let me know what else you need.
well i'll be damned, it works!! i did all the locks and they work just like they were brand new. the only one that doesn't work, is the rear lift gate, but its because the actually latch has developed play so it binds when the motor tries to lock it. but ALL of the motors work awsome. and it only took a couple hours. i poped all the plastic rivets and got the motor out. then when i put it all together i just drilled the each of teh plastic rivots from the bottom and put some self tapping screws in from the top after i drilled them. THANKS, that saves me some serious money!!!
yeah, my rear latch mechanism is just worn out, when the lever is pushed from the part the lock moves it won't move because there is so much play on the slider that it binds up. i even tried with a screw driver, it wouldn't move unless you pushed on it form the back of the slider, then you could slide it back and forth all day long.
Bumping this back up for the heated seats question - was it ever resolved? I just bought a '00 Excursion Limited and it doesn't appear mine work either (at least the driver's seat doesn't.)
I just downloaded and printed the user's manual and will check fuses, but my light lights up when "on" also so it appears to be getting power.
mine still doesn't work, i got the door locks working but the heated seats still won't work. the light comes on when you push the button, but no heat. both front seats do not work.
pull your switch, turn on the key and see if you get power at the switch, then try at the heater element... if'n ya got power there, it's probably a bad element and will require replacement....
