ambulance package

dear enthusiast i have 2001 superduty with the ambulance package,yesterday my truck started fine but after about 3 miles, it quit charging, so im driving home and about48 miles even later it charged all back up to normal, so im wondering what it is and heres my question. how do you test the altinators or volt regulator?

i het mine tested at the local auto parts store, autozone.

i used a midtronics electrical scan it said charging system fault, so i need to ohm it what prongs were dont wanna pull altinators specially the lower one its by the frame
