Edge

Now that's a pretty stupid statement! Batteries fail all the time. SO you are saying that we are all just taking a chance until the day our battery fails? Then the Edge craps out and ruins our truck and it isn't the Edges fault? I'm pretty sure the factory computer isn't making anyones truck not drivable is it?

Don't get me wrong, I love my Edge, but if this thing is going to leave me and my $35000 truck stranded, that's a problem!

And Sarge261, how hard is it to install these things other than plugging them in? So you didn't have a problem yet means all these units must be good and the only problems are user error??

what I'am saying is with the edge connected to your truck and you are trying to start it with a weak battery this can happen. I have seen a weak battery not let a vehicle start.

Yes, but since the EDGE piggypacks off the PCM, then when the battery dies, the tuning gets all fuggered up in between. Using a flashing device instead, that loads the tune to the PCM and thats it, if the battery dies, its no big deal, the tuning is still on the PCM just fine. Its burned onto the chip in the hardware of the truck, so power fluctuations and dead batteries wont affect it.

The Edge flashes the PCM just like the rest of the tuners. It does not even need to be hooked up for programming to work......you can download a tune and unconnect the unit. It only needs to be hooked up for the different display, alert, diagnostic, and performance options. I am guessing that for those purposes it works very similar to how the new SCT LiveWire is going to work.

I wonder how the low battery condition affects the programmed PCM and Edge interface.......unless somehow it initiates a new download from the Edge unit.... all by itself? Hopefully someone with this problem will contact the technical people at Edge (as I believe they should) and we can get an answer as to what might be going on.

P.S. Can anyone tell me why this site constantly and seemingly randomly leaves out typed words........I just went back to edit this post, but the correct words are displayed in the editor.....what gives? It makes reading some of these posts very confusing?

ok then, i stand corrected, i thought the edge was continually controlling the PCM.

If you cant see some important words, you probably have ads blocked on your computer or something, a lot of major words become "ad words", and if you have ads blocked, they disappear

This typically due to an adblocker, either in your browser, or in a virus scan program (Norton is pretty notorious for that).

Something i didn't think of asking,

what if i put it back to stock, and just use the edge for the gauges? I don't tow anything or what not, so i don't really need the increase in performance. i've been running level 2 since july with no problems, but i also don't want any to start.

I guess the main question is, are all edges effected by this? and is just having it plugged in even if at stock tune at risk as well?

Are you all really worrying about ONE problem with this unit? You all have any idea how many people run these with no issue at all? Talk about the sky falling down....

I can certainly appreciate the fact that you want whats best for your truck, but I find stuff like this (performance parts) are like looking at webmd to diagnose yourself. "What? I totally have that!!!" Looks up and its Ebola or something

This I do know, in newer vehicles, you cannot let the juice (voltage, amps, etc) run out of these vehicles. I will mess them up big time. Where I live, I replace batteries every two years on the clock, because of extreme temps. in the summer.
If you choose to not maintain your newer car's electrical system, then soon it will not run. This includes computer analysis!

Bob and WheelMA1,

You were indeed correct.....ad blocking from Norton Internet Security was blocking out some words. This had been driving me nuts for some time, I am glad that I asked and that you answered.....thanks.

An isolated incident like this should not scare anyone from owning a Tuner. While I would have gone a different route before visiting the dealer, I can understand the actions taken. It's unfortunate, but some people out there will read this and never consider a tuner again.

btw, if any of you are suddenly leary of your Edge and wanna get rid of it, I'll take it off your hands. I really want the new SCT tuner coming out, but an Edge can satisfy me for the time being.
