Theres a solenoid down on the starter also. Sometimes when these go out you can tap them and they will start. May work for a time or two. I've used the jack handle to reach down and tap on my '92
if there is one on the firewall/fender wall, would appreciate knowing the location. Was too dark tonight to find anything so I"ll try again tomorrow am. Including the whack with a hammer/rock
Not sure about the 2000. My '03 doesn't have the conventional solenoid on the fender well. But the 92 did. On the 92 I'd tap the starter. Worked enough to get me home.
whacking the starter did nothing. except make my arm sore. :-)
turned out it was the starter. Dead as can be. $320 installed by a dealer. seeing as it was less than 20 degrees, I have no tools or place to install one (or a parts house with one in the area) I feel like I didn't get taken. And he squeezed me in line so I can travel home tomorrow. Not too bad. I'll give this dealer a thumbs up.
