I may have found a 429 to put into my project truck. I'm sure it's not going to be a direct bolt up, but how much trouble will i have fitting it into my 71 f100?
I'm just wondering if i'm still going to be able to find parts for the motor such as hedders, some speed parts.
You can either piece the engine parts together or go through L&L products for the complete swap. You will need the 429/460/351M/400 bellhousing, clutch linkage bracket, motor mounts and towers. L&L makes headers for your swap. If you use a 351/400 bellhousing you may have clearance issues as the 351/400 bellhousing is about 3/8'' more shallow than the 429/460.
what kind of power output were you looking to get from the 429? whats your budget? all the speed parts you can get for a 460 will fit in and on a 429 because the only difference between the two is the piston height and the stroke of the crank... the block, intake, heads, exhaust, even the connecting rods are the same.
Your swap will an easy bolt in. You can either use factory towers and mounts from a 73-79 2 wheel drive that had a 460. The are on ebay quite often if you can't find any at a local salvage yard. You will need a C6 from a 429/460 or 351M/400. Headers for a 73-79 truck with a 460 will fit your truck.
I'm going to make it a pro street truck so i'd like to be between 400 and 500 hp. I think you answered my question about the parts availability. This isn't a for sure thing but i happened upon itwhile looking for a 390. Thanks for all the input.
