Replacing 2001 Expy Tires?

Geez, I'm sure this has been asked a million times before, but I can't search.
(Most sites flame ya for not searching - this one won't let ya search until you've had a certain number of posts??)
Anyways,

I've got a 2001 EB EXPY. around 50,000 miles
It's got Goodyear Wrangler RT/S P265/70R17's on it.
(I assume they're the original tire that came on the truck?)

Time to replace them & I'm thinking of putting on COOPER's (Because I've always had good luck with Coopers! and a local shop has buy 3 - 1 free)
Any comments on type and/or sizing?? (ATR - P or LT - Bigger size?)

Your right on about the search thing, go figure.

I run BFG Long Trail on mine and love them, no vibrating at all. .

I've got the same tires and love them too. I got a huge nail in one and it wouldn't hold with a patch. Had a hell of a time finding a place that carries them anymore. Finally found one at Sam's Club. Wonder if they don't make them anymore.

I think my '01 came OEM with General Tires "Grabbers"...they got recalled. I always thought the original 275 treadwidth looked best on those EXPYs. After the recall they went with the narrower, taller 265 tire and it didn't look right IMO.

I had a similar situation about a month ago. My buddy manages an Americas Tire and he had to special order it.

i put on wrangler rts in place of the conti's that were there. i wanted bfg rugged trails, but goodyear was selling the rts dirt cheap at the time. my wallet chose the rts!

I recently went from the goodyears on a 2000 eb expy to Bridgestone Revo's. The Revos are the best tire ive ever had...I cant remember ever buying tires and saying to my self WOW these are so much better. Smoother ride and Much-Much better grip.

By the way, maybe someone can do a search for you...somewhere on this site in the last week there is a thread on "what are the best tires" It should be in the first few pages. I looked quickly but didnt see it.

Any recommendations on size or type?
Will a larger tire fit the original rims & the truck?
I noticed that Cooper's website shows both a P265/70R17 & a LT265/70R17 under the Discoverer ATR. Anyone know the difference?

"LT" tires are usually higher ply. they handle weight better, but the ride is rougher. i would stick with the stock size.

i believe tire size possibilities will also depend on whether you've got a 4x2 or 4x4. there seems to be a more or less consensus on 4x4 max tire sizing, though i can't recall what it is...4x2 max sizing seems a bit more nebulous (at least i had trouble finding a definitive answer when i bought my new tires/wheels).

I cannot say enough good things about Costco. We just replaced ours with Michelins. Price out your tires and then head over there. You will save a bundle. We saved over $300 on four tires.
