Whats the difference in a cluth and presure plate for a 1976 inline six and a 1969 302? The bolt holes are not the same.
Called Napa they say I need a ten inch clutch pressure plate, and the inline one is and eleven. The bolt holes are not to far apart like a 1/4 inch or so. I thought maybe my flywheel i bought was for a car, i called and gave my number and it came back to a ford truck, so im positive i got the truck flywheel. I came across a Zoom clutch and pressure plate kit on ebay... here is an exert from it, wonder if it will work?
This auction is for a new, never used or mounted, Zoom clutch set (minus the throwout and pilot bearings). Zoom part number 30004. It comes with a 10" heavy duty clutch, heavy duty pressure plate (long style), and clutch alignment tool. This fits Ford small block motors with a 1 1/16" - 10 spline (289, 302) with a 157 tooth flywheel. If your looking for something with a little more grip than stock, but do not want extreme pedal pressure this would be a good setup.
What engine do you have now? A 300 six or a 302? Eleven inch clutch and pressure plate fits a 64 tooth flywheel, the 10 incher fits 157 tooth wheels. A 10 inch pressure plate does not fit an 11 inch, 164 tooth wheel.
The trucks usually came with the larger flywheel, 164 tooth and used the larger clutches, 11 inch. There are also different pressure plates that confuse things, the older long style don't have the same bolt pattern as the newer diaphram pressure plates.
Ok well the clutch I tried to put on my 302, which came off the 300 dont fit up perfect its like a quarter inch off with the bolt holes, well 3 line up but the other 3 dont. The 302 is a 1969 which came out of a fairlane, I bought a new flywheel for it they say its for a truck, there are multiple holes in it i guess for like being used as a universal flywheel or something. Ill try and get some pictures to show you better whats going on.
Ok I counted 165 so im guessing I have a 164 tooth flywheel, its the one I bought new for the 1969 302.
Thats should be the same as the 1976 300 I have but the clutches are not the same, cause the boly holes are off a little. Maybe I have wrong flywheel or something. I could use the one off the 300 but you cant cause of the balance. I guess Ill get some pictures
I don't know what size clutch the 300's used, but you're right about the flywheels not interchanging, the 300 was internally balanced, no counterweight on the flywheel. Take your flywheel to the local parts house and see what pressure plates fit it.
Ok I finally got a hold of someone that knew what they were talking about at the part stores!! I have a perfection brand flywheel and I need a perfection brad pressure plate, see there not all the same brands are a little different off they say......
