Hey everybody i got a msd 6A/Pro-Billet dist./ and blaster 2 coil. Motor started running rough the other night, so i popped the hood and could see the negative and positive coil posts arcing INTO the dist./sparkplug wire terminal.????? what??? i dont understand. Not the coil, i put a new Accel super stock on there and it still does the same thing. I cant firgure why it would do this. BRAND NEW ford racing 9mm wire. Truck ran fine the last couple weeks with these wires so i dont think its the wires. HELP me please! Thanks, Jesse.
The high voltage always follows the easiest path to ground. So there is a high resistance in the wire connections, the wires, the distributor cap/rotor or spark plugs.

the plugs are not the prob. have not changed them, same ones from when it ran fine. The plug wires are not gonna go bad overnight they were fine, its gotta be something else.
The system is designed so that the spark plug gap is the easiest path to ground. In your case it is not, so look at everything between the coil and the gap. There is resistance somewhere in there.

Sparkplugs, rotors and dist caps do wear out. Bdox is correct. The spark is being generated, but instead of following the wire over to the dist, thru the rotor, and then to the cap and down the wire to the sparkplug, it is finding it easier to jump the terminals of the coil.
im just having a hard time believing these new plug wires can just "go bad" just like that. I have tried diff. coils, so i can rule that out. I also noticed that the "arcing" is mainly only on the coil wire and the #4 cylinder wire. I mean its real bad you can hold your fingers by the wires and the electricity will arc of your finger tips. You cant feel it but its definitly wierd. So i should check plug gaps?? I have not changed them either so i cant see it being the plug gaps.
While watching it arc at the coil, can you tell if it's every cylinder, or is it just one? You have already observed that #4 cylinder may have a problem, so that may be the only one giving you problems.
What you can do is swap the #4 plug with another and see if the problem moves. You could also swap wires around and see if it moves.
Sparkplug wires can be damaged very easily. The wire can be pulled a little too hard, and it will come loose out of the terminal end under the boot. Also if you happen to have a hard time with a sparkplug, you can crack the porcelain on the plug.
I would swap some things around and see what happens.
