hard to start ...sometimes

hello i was looking for info on my 99 f 350 diesel and found this site. hope you can help. i turn the key on the wait to start light comes on then goes out right away then the service engine soon @water in fuel light come on. the tach needle goes to about 500 rpms. the truck cranks but wont start. i have replaced the glow plug relay,all 8 glow plugs cam sensor fuel filter and a oil change. sometimes the glow plug light acts normal and it starts fine. then it shuts off and acts wierd again. any ideas?

Have you had it checked for codes? It seems like that should set at least a history code.

yes i hade it checked and it had no codes

Are you sure it was the glow plug relay that you replaced.Cause the AIH relay looks identical to the glow plug one.

there are two relays next to each other on the motor. one is taller the shorter one is for the glow plugs

AIH relay is just there to heat the air going into the engine for better/quicker warmups. Should not be your problem although it makes a good emergency GP relay in a pinch. Mine has been disconnected for over a year.
