Still update. Received the 203 thermostat and housting from dieselsite, for those that are cheap like me, you can save money on the thermostat housing by going to powerstrokeshop.com and save almost $8.00. It is going to be in the teens here so will wait to finish water pump install. Alan, your pictures have been a big help, doing the coolant filter at the same time. Any tricks? Looks straight enough. Dave

Next to the AIS it was the easiest mod I have done so far. Just make sure you route the hoses carefully, you dont want the serp belt to cut it. I put the Dual alt (around the belt) upper hose on and just tie wraped it to it.

Alan, I do have the dual Alt. hose and noticed in your pictures how you routed the hose. I will try that. You mentioned the AIS? Which one did you end up using?? I read about the KWIK Filter and so forth and even talked to TNT. I am just now trying to get this one running again and on the road before I tackle something else. On the water pump gasket and even thermostat housing, does it hurt to put a little pookie(black RTV) to hold the gasket in place??? Also just teflon tape on the sensor and heater hose(I did get a new 0 ring). Thanks for the help. Really cold here with ice and wind so will wait a day or two. Dave

I used Permatex "The Right Stuff" on the t-stat housing and good ole teflon on the fitings. The heater outlet is sealed with an o-ring

How tight did you guys get your fan clutch? I just did mine last weekend, and I held the pulley with a strap wrench and tightened it with a big cresent-the manual says 84-115 ft lbs, but obviously I don't have that big of torque wrench....

I am in the middle of mine, all a part, to cold to finish. I understand the bolts on the water pump, 18lbs?, not sure on the fan clutch, however I know it took a bunch to get off, so I will put a bunch back on it?? Any tricks you can think of before I start to put mine back together?? I have got all the parts now and going to install a coolant filter at the same time. If yours isn't leaking, sounds like a good job!!!!! Dave

Yeah, mine went back together pretty easy, you are right about the 18 lbs on the water pump bolts, the manual says 35! That would cause trouble!

I just put black silicone on key areas for the o-ring, just enough to keep the o-ring on the pump. Check the 2 recessed screws on the back side of the pump ( the stainless plate behind the impeller), I found both of mine to be loose! I took them out and put loctite on them. Other than that it was pretty simple-let me know how it goes tightening up the fan clutch! I just don't want mine coming off.

Remember, when the engine is running it twists in the direction to tighten the fan clutch. Put a bunch into it, enough to keep it from backing off, but it shouldn't come loose. It tightens itself when the fan is running.

Merry Christmas, got back to ranch yesterday and started on water pump. Used the black as suggested and think the gasket is O.k. Also installing coolant filter at same time. Got cold so hope to continue today. Seems good so far, to put the fan on and so forth. Thanks. Dave will advise.

Dave here, Wednesday night and just finished the water pump!!! Yeah!! So far no leaks even. Now I could do it a lot quicker. I also installed the coolant filter, this went O.K. however on my '99 7.3 the filter is against the top raditor hose. The kit really went well. Putting the fan clutch was trickey because I was tired yesterday and today went well. I followed most all the posts and took all advice and think it all was very helpful. I am greatful to all who helped, thank you. The one thing I did a little different is that I installed a flush kit or tee and hooked up a hose and flushed until clear, drained the raditor then opened flush cap and poured four gallons of the new antifreeze and then the distilled water. Will test drive tomorrow. Thanks again!!!!

The upper hose does get mashed a tad by the filter but other than making it a PITA to replace the filter to does not inhibit flow to the radiator.

Same here with the coolant filter hitting the hose. I'm not looking forward to changing that filter. I have a feeling some lube will need to be used to get that metal canister to slide against the rubber hose.

I wasn't as bad as I was expecting and the hose didnt bind it. There just isn't any room to get to the filter to unscrew it.

I think the strap wrench I got for Christmas will come in handy when it's time to change the filter.
