That is the one I got CP4114. I also changed the upper radiator hos to a "dual alt" (around the belt) instead of through it. On the fluid I am running the Red (Rotella ELC or Walmart brand Final Charge ELC) one additive at 300,000 miles and its good for another 300,000. I also replaced the Thermostat and housing with one from www.dieselsite.com (the black part in the pic above) and his coollant filter.

I used permatex "The Right Stuff" on the thermostat housing and just the oring on the pump.

Heres the coolant filter with the Red coolant in the background

I'm confused about the coolant now. I thought the ELC didn't require any additive. Do you still need to add some of the Motorcraft additive to the ELC at first, it just lasts a lot longer? And, do you test it with a strip like the old antifreeze?

Thanks for the info. Is the hose around the belt O.K. Any other special deal or just change the hose. Sounds like a deal to me. Probably don't have time to get the thermostat housing by this weekend to change it too. Read where some talked about to long shaft? I am only 65 miles from the closest Wal-Mart, about the same to Auto parts, O'riely's.

No testing required 1 additive from Shell at 300,000 miles or 15,000 hours.

Its more of a refresher than an additive just extends the life you do it once at 300,000 then at 600,000 you flush and refill.

I don't think so JT. It is just a recharge added at 300k. Now as for testing, that is something I hadn't thought of.

The short stem variety that NAPA sells will not close the bypass hole in the pump when it opens and can cause the rear of the block to overheat without any warning. Its just something good to know and ask so you dont get stuck with the wrong part and damage your motor.

I put the dual alt hose on mine as well. Main reason is so that if I have to replace the belt while on the road, I don't have to pull the top radiator hose. With the stock hose running through the middle of the belt, you'd have to pull it to change the belt.

No special tools needed. I would also suggest not re-using the stock clamps, unless they are already a typical worm gear hose clamp. The spring type stock clamps aren't suggested for re-use.

The thermostat you're thinking of that belongs in our trucks is a long stem type. A lot of guys have swapped in a 203* thermostat, but the ones you typically get at a parts store are the short stem type and will not work properly in our trucks. Dieselsite has the correct long stem 203* thermostat.

Thanks Alan. I don't know when I would actually hit 300K after I do a coolant flush, so it sounds like it's something I don't have to worry about for quite some time.

I'm with you Alan. At my rate of about 20K a year, if I flush it out in the spring and put the ELC in, it will be 2022 before I need to put an additive in it. Now I don't know what the future holds, but I wonder if I'll even have the truck still in 15 years. I have no plans to get rid of it, but think about what diesels were like in 1992 compared to now, and imagine what kind of advancements will be made in the next 15 years.

Alan, I did get the correct pump from O'Rieliey's, the Cp4114, $130.+ I used a friends account, bought the dual Alt. hose, new Serpentine belt, ordered new theromstat housing and 203 from dieselsite, not here yet, and I did get the Coolant Filter. Also bought the tool some have mentioned where you use a 1/2 inch break over. Think I have almost everything, New antifreeze too. Will advise. Thanks again for everyones input. Anything else is appreciated. Dave

Question

Guess I was wrong, the tool I bought is not the correct one, However I did find a large crescent wrench and it fits. My question is, looking over the hood at the engine, wrench on the Fan nut, Clockwise or counter clockwise? I know some say Counter Clockwise but not sure of install or take off. Any help on Sunday afternoon appreciated. Thanks. Dave

Dave, I can't remember which way it is, but think of it like this - when the engine is running and turning the fan, it turns in the direction so the fan will pull air through the radiator. So, so loosen the fan, you'll wan to turn the nut in the opposite direction that the fan would normally turn. Once it breaks free, you should be able to turn it pretty easily by hand.

Thanks Jeremy, It is Counter Clockwise to take off. I did get it off and really wasn't bad, I used a big cresent and a strap wrench I use on filter in my well house, it worked once I figured the correct direction. Getting ready to take the old pump off, alos have collant filter kit to install and waiting on theromstat housing and new 203 thermostat. Should be in by Tuesday. You bet once I get it done I will send or Post a Post!! Going to put in a flush kit to do that. Thanks again! Dave
