I've got 3 mods to my tranny - temp probe in the standard port, Sonnax/Tricum spring kit, and the SP Diesel Exhaust Brake with TC Lock. I also currently have Mobil 1 as the fluid - looks normal, but when I checked yesterday it did look a little high for some reason. 57.8K miles on the truck, fluid last changed at 32K.
My TC is set to automatically lock at 36 mph and unlock at 25 or so. While under moderate or heavier throttle, the TC locks normally at 36mph, then around 42-43pmh it will unlock causing revs to climb as long as I hold the pedal down. It does not feel like there is any power going to the rear wheels while in this condition.
I thougt I would try changing the fluid, and I will be switching back to a non-syn Mercon (I've got Chevron). I also thought I would unhook the TC-locker, but won't have time to do that this weekend.
Any thoughts? Am I heading down the road to a new tranny?
The stock converter just SUCKS. I hate the feeling of the stock TC slipping, it feels like you are just coasting along revving the engine in neutral as the wind pushes you. It is so inefficient that it slips basically all the time, even when locked, at least in my case. I drive my truck like a manual most of the time to combat this.
The programming in the Jody's tunes seem to address this problem. I have found the torque converter lock-up strategies are more user friendly with my new DP F5 chip. Haven't noticed any slippage. Pulls hard after lock-up with smooth acceleration.
i just instaled a BTS vb a few weeks ago.when talking to brian he told me not to use synthetic oil in a old trans as it is too slick and it will cause mager slipping...he told me to just to use regular atf..you could try changeing it.. but it may be too late as synthetic is hard to clean off once its there..
A bad or incomplete ground. Are you sure you have the right wire (violet with yellow tracer) and a good ground? Do you have the LED light or did you just make one with a switch and wires?

Ys - it has been working fine for about 35K miles. I'll recheck the connections. It does relock after backing off the throttle, and it won't unlock when easing into it.
Hey, I've been thinking about this same SP Diesel Exhaust Brake with TC Lock, cause it is supposedly fully automatic and it is turned on and off through the cruise control switches. Let me know how simple or difficult it was to install and what you think about the way it operates....or how it doesn't operate. From what I have read about it, in theory it works though the cruise switch paddles on the wheel....Thanks for the intel...Dave

that is how it is sapost to work..you turn it on and off with the O/D button and set the t/c lock on and off with the cruise..my unit didnt work..not sure why..when i got it it had diretions for a dodge but box was marked ford.i had wiring for a ford so i asked them and took picture and sent them to him ..he said that was it.. so i instaled it..instal was easy enouph but it kept my ebpv closed and would not open till i unhooked it..i called and asked him whats up with that...he asked me to send it back to him..i sent it back friday..ill keep you posted after i get it back...
Thank you very much for the update. I like the fact that the plugs slave between the factory harness and connection, and in theory it is switched by the cruise on and off, resume and coast switches.....I really this one turns out to be the jewel......Take care and I will be watching for updates....Dave
