i have a a 1997 psd, with 230,000 miles, runs amazing, has a intake full exhuast and a chip, i hade the transmission rebuilt by aamco about 2 years ago, and ive only put about 25,000 on it since then, and then about six months ago it started to have trouble shifting, so i put a Bully dog shift kit, and trans cooler with a fan, and a trans temp gauge, it seems to shift find at first, but when you step on it it wont shift unless i let off the throttle, and then when the trans gets to about 150-175 degrees it wont shift at all or only under very little load, i know i need to get a new trans or rebuild or maybe convert it over to a manual, what would it cost to do a manual conversion on this psd?, and what would a good performance auto cost, thanks
I think Brians is supposed to be good. I had mine done around here. Everything is heavy duty. Just the TC cost me $1,050.00. Then another $2,300.00 for the rest of it. No idea about the manual conversion.
BTS (Brian's Transmission Shop) is the best by far if you are going to replace it. My advice would be to go back to AAMCO and gripe at them for a bit. 25k is not nearly long enough for a transmission to last and I would think there are some warranty issues here. That is of course as long as you are not running a tuner with some crazy settings or trying to tow a semi trailer. That kinda tends to void most warranty. Through normal use though, you should be able to get them to fix it.
Sorry to hear your dilema Stang, if you can't find one near you I'll give you my good friends number in New Orleans. He is a perfectionist and he has done a dozen different vehicles for me and he is bad. I'm hauling hurricane debris here in N.O. and I'm trying to blow mine up but it ain't happenning. 25,000 miles with dump trailer behind it hauling ASZ and the sucker still runs like a clock. Hope this helps, Desy
