Tailgate freezes and won't work...
Ok, my 1997 F150 tailgate has been having issues. I live in Alaska, and for the past few weeks it has been 20 below. I realize to most of you this weather will seem most severe, but I assure you that people live here and vehicles do work and function properly. My problem is my tailgate will open properly, but when I shut it it will not latch. The latches work, I even took of the tailgate and let it thaw for an hour indoors and then reinstalled it outside and the sucker latched fine. What lube or something could I put on the latches? Again the handle that unlatches works fine but no amount of slamming will make the latches latch all the way, they turn over the little bars but just don't get to that point where they click locked. And the tailgate shuts all the way without them locking in place so I am thinking my only option is some sort of severe cold weather lubricant. Any suggestions, or thoughts?
