Ok so to start off I have a 84 f-150 2wd with a 302. Now about 4 years ago I got me a set of hedman headers (item 89350) and 2 flowmaster 40 series mufflers. Well my problem is my headers have rusted horribly and the mufflers arent very far behid them. I now must look at options to replace my exhuast system. Im not sure what to go with but the shop i go to recommended hedman headers again but this time the elite series (item 89358) and some Magna Flow (sp) mufflers. Im not 100% about using hedman again as I dont want to have to replace this stuff every 4 years or so. I was also looking for people that have heard the magna flow mufflers on a truck like mine, did it sound good? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately headers will rust...my brother ordered dynomax headers for his '84 F-150 with a 302, and they accidentally sent him ceramic coated ones (from summit). He had these headers on his truck for maybe 2 years and the ceramic coating was already starting to fall off around the collectors and they were getting rusty in those areas. I think that unless you get stainless steel, you will have to deal with the rusting.
As for the magnaflows, it depends on the style, but they are all straight through and they are all polished stainless and cost around $100 apiece. Bit pricey for me. You might look at Hooker Aerochambers, they are a chambered style muffler similar to the Flowmaster but they have stainless internals, for $60 each, can't beat that.
