hey all, i did the wastegate mod on my truck (Unplugged the control hose) im reading up to 22lbs of boost at 3000rpms, i was wondering if this could be detrimental to either engine or turbine, i think its factory, its a Garrett i know that, turck has 4 inch straight pipe from trubo back, and K/N air filter. other than that no mods. and is there a way to get more boost? without a boost controler? thanks
22 psi is fine. On the stock turbo with no mods done to it, it's best to not go much past 25 psi.
Only way to get more boost than you're getting now is to make sure you don't have any boost leaks, and then to add more fuel. Adding more fuel is where you'll see power gains. Simplest way is with a tuner or chip.
Speaking of leaks...After removing the Air Filter, I made myself a 4" dia pvc plug to seal off the intake tube, along with an air valve stem to apply 5 or less lbs of air. I also plug the outlet for the green small tubing. It bleed off quite quickly, less than 30 seconds.. Don't see or hear of any leaks.. All my clamps are tight. This should hold pressure, right?

The best way to get more boost is to get a DP-Tuner. More fuel + more air = more boost.

I've been thinking of doing the same thing. I think dieselsite sells a part to do this, but it's like $40 or $50 I think. So if I make my own, shouldn't I be able to put in like 20-25psi without doing any damage? I was planning on doing this this weekend.

Yes but you don't really need to. Most people can find their leaks with only 5-10 psi in there.
22 with no chip? I can only get 22 with my DP on the 140....perhaps I havea leak.
Yes Crack, you probably have a leak somewhere. I found 2 cracked intercooler boots on my truck when my boost dropped to the same level as yours is now (on the 120 race setting). At that time I still had my stock turbo, but was capable of hitting 30 psi without any leaks. Funny thing is, boost leaks at high altitude makes your EGT's go CRAZY. I actually managed to get the temps over 1400 degrees once.
I'm only getting 17lbs max on my stock 2002 psd. Boost readings stay less than 5 at 60mph. New gauge, I don't think I have any kinks in the tubing. checked it multiple times. Normal?
