I currently have 99,000 on my 05 PSD and have had two tranny flushes performed, one by Goodyear and the other by a local lube shop(Rainforest). I didn't do my research and wasn't aware that I needed to use Mercon SP. I trused the shops to do it right and now that I look back I think they both used Mercon V. I haven' t had any issuse yet but I'm worried. I am going to get the Local Ford dealer to flush it again tomorrow and hope I didn't cause any serious problems. What do you guys think? The dealer wants $150.

Never trust a local quick lube shop to know what to put in these trans, I spent 1 whole day calling parts stores and lube shops trying to get SP and they never heard of it, had to make special trip to dealer to get it.
I agree that I should have known better but its too bad that you cant trust credible shops to use the correct fluid. Does anyone know of a good diesel shop in or around Houston, TX or at least a good dealership? What other major maitainance should I have done by 100K? I do the oil every 5K, air filter every 25-30K, fuel every 15-20K (Motorcraft only), and I have already flushed the power stearing fluid, changed the front and rear diff, and transfer case. Do the turbo or injectors need anything done to them. Joints, A/C, belt, etc. Please direct me to the right link on this site so that I don't waste anybody's time.
aggiect01, if all your dealership is asking is $150, I'd say take them up on that. I called my dealership the other day to perform the tranny flush and they said that it would cost $270. So I then asked which filters that included and she responded, "oh, you want your filters changed? Well, then the full service for the transmission will cost $320" So that $150 is looking like a pretty good deal!! Needless to say, I'm going to do it myself!

agg,
I agree with dc, last time I had the dealer do mine it cost me $280, occationally I get cupons in the mail from them for $189 specials, so you better take the $150 and run with it.
Even if you go to the dealer, confirm they are using SP and that they replace the EXTERNAL filter. Some shops ignore the external one and just change the internal. The internal only needs to be replaced after something like 150k and/or tranny work.

I would recomend Mac Haik Ford on I-10 & Beltway 8. They do a ton of commercial business and have a solid reputation. Eric is the service writer and talking w/ tech's isn't an issue. Give them a call and see what the $$ is, 713.932.5084. Check also on line at Myford page and see if there are any on-line specials they are running as they do that periodically too.
They are running an $89.95 Tranny service special. It will be more for the Diesel but see what you get as this is a special they are running now. Need to print it off the My ford site but discuss w/ Eric.

Not saying they are even the same, but I use Mac Haik in Austin. They came highly recommended from a local who had lived there for a long time. I thought they did good work (at least on my truck) until I dealt with them on a professional level from my employer. They overcharged me for the first tranny oil change on my truck ($386) but Ford was having problems with a certain run of tranny's due to a machining problem. I also had head gaskets done under warranty (after fighting with them for a year and 10K miles) and after tearing the thing down myself a month ago I'd just assumed Wallyworld had done the headgaskets. Over torqued bolts, under torqued bolts, had to use two 4 foot cheaters to get the fan off and had the correct tools to do the fan with. Headbolts partially torqued right. One head replaced due to warpage and the other head should have been but it wasn't. When the heads were torn down to be rebuilt recently there were 3 bolts where there should have been 8 (not sure where they went--maybe in the oil pan??? or not even replaced)
Again......not saying they are the same dealership, but the philosophy's are still the same.
