small subwoofer box question

I am looking to put a subwoofer under the back seat of my 04 f150 ext cab. My question is if a subwoofer is reccomended to have a .35 cubic ft box and I can only fit a .2-.25 cubic ft box, what kind of difference will that make?? Will the sub sound like crap? Or will I just not get as much bass? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

BTW.. Its a JL Audio 8w3v2 sub

It could. I like to use 90% of the recomended volume, and stuff the box full of poly fill. As long as you build the box solid and stuff it, it should sound okay. There are alot of ways to make the speaker belive and act like it is in a bigger box. Dynamat, Dynaorb, poly fill are all good examples.

Sealed box volume is different from ported, frequently less.
