mine did when it went. When you crank, does the tach move? I think if it doesn't it means the cps is bad, but get confirmation before you blow $100 on it.
On the other hand, it's always good to have a spare... it'd eliminate that from the possibilities.

If you can't wait for the $60 one off ebay, you might get a better price on one from the International dealer. Don't buy a carquest one, theres been several that didn't work. Can't speak for the other suppliers.

Usually when the CPS dies suddenly like that, it won't set a code.

99% sure that you need a new one.

CPS - Camshaft Position Sensor

It's mounted on the front of your engine just up and to the left of the crankshaft pulley. Takes a 10mm socket to remove.

Madsen this is going to be a long list of check that must be gone through.

1. Drain fuel bowl the leave the valve open and turn the key to on. There should be a strong steady stream coming out the end of the drain tube.

2. Check oil level on dipstick, in hpop reservoir, and how many miles on the oil?

3. If 1 & 2 check OK unplug ICP sensor (Toward the front of the driverside head between th eHPOP and valve cover) and see if the truck will crank in "Limp Mode"

Post results and we'll go from there

If you have plenty of juice in your batteries then I would check the GPR - Glow Plug Relay. Also check your fuses. I had various issues over the years, usually it was the batteries for me but I've also had the CPS and GPR go out.

I doubt it's the batteries or glow plug system, since it died while you already had the truck running, plus you were at the store, so I'm assuming the engine was somewhat warm when it died. That's a good way to rule out the batteries and glow plugs as a potential cause.

Amiller has some good items to check. Also check your fuses like JFH suggested.

If everything there is ok, you'll need to get a diagnostic run on your truck. I would suspect a wiring harness problem, or an IDM problem.
