I know. Sounds weird, but lately since I've been around here, I'm seeing numbers now and then, and they always look so low. I know what the door says. I think I always assumed that info on the truck, whatever info, would be accurate. But then, what was that mpg rating on the window? Yeah, so anyway.
Heres the thing. Yes, my truck isnt stock anymore. But the things I've changed, they aren't heavy. I mean, changing a turbo. Okay, maybe you gain a pound. Or the intercooler. Nothing here is heavy.
But since my truck is a work truck, periodically, I have to go by a scale. At the dump they weigh me, on the interstate they weigh me (if I have a trailer).
So I know what the scale says I weigh basically empty, which is 9760 last time. And I was almost out of fuel.
What perplexes me is this seems higher than what I'm hearing from anyone else. Never bugged me until recently.
So what would you expect a crew cab long box to weigh in at?
When I purchased my truck I had to scale it because it is a 550 and it weighed 9700 lb completely empty and without the 5th wheel hitch installed. Since then I've put in a 98 gallon auxiliary fuel tank that adds about 730 lb when full and then there's the hitch that is about 50 or so lb.
My CC LB F-350 weighs in at about 7800 pounds as it sits now, with the bigger tires, toolbox, & full fuel tank. I think your 9670 is extremely high and the scales are off. I've not even seen some CC LB duallys weigh in at much over 8000 pounds when empty.
Mine's usually about 7800 and some change with typically 300 lbs of tools/stuff in it. I also know I can carry 300-600 lbs of mud on the outside if it is really muddy.
A friend of mine's F450 cc with a flatbed weighs about a ton more (9800).
I have a 2002 F-350 Dually. It has the 38gal tank and it was slammed full and I have a Reese 16000 pound rated fifth wheel hitch. I weighed the truck, trailer and me for a total gross of 16,900. I drove 5 miles home, dumped the trailer and ran right back to the scales, and the truck weighed 7620 with me in it. So given the total weight was 16,900 - 7620 the truck weight, leaves me draging a 9280 pound trailer. I would guess maybe the weight of half gallon of fuel would be the amount burned off, but I would say that this is the accurate weight..
