Some tips for when purchasing an EXCURSION
Here are a few things that will help you purchase an Excurison or SD. Check the hubs. If they are hard to turn, and not easy, thats $136 for new MANUAL hubs, or $414 for the stock type hubs.
If one or both doesn't turn, and/or the truck vibrates a little in front, check the seals on the opposite side of the hubs. Take a flash light, and if you could see through and see no bearings, tell the guy you are going to have to buy new hub assemblies, cheapest "good" product is $400 each hub assembly. Then you have seals and ball joints that come to about $180 each side. It usually ends up being $1200 for the whole front end. -Something to tell the dealer when trying to buy.
Door lock acuators, make sure that they work ALL doors. $55 each
Along with window motors.
Just thought that I could throw in some experience and info.
If you are going to rebuild the whole front end (ball joints and hubs). You should just get the kit from powerstrokeshop.com. It cost 750.00 for both hubs, seals, moog ball joints. Everything you need to rebuild the front end. They are a ford dealer that was a sponsor here last week, not anymore? Here is a link to the kit I got http://catalog.powerstrokeshop.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=MorePartInfo&PartID=356107&siteid =214083&catalogid=3660 it include the ABS hubs that have the ABS sensor already installed. Took me a day to install and I mean a whole day. I also got, tie rod ends, drop link ends (adjuster while I was at it) and sway bar drop links. They have great prices on any part you might need.
I hope this helps.
This is good for us but don't tell the person or dealer you are buying the truck from, tell them retail prices and get the stuff at a discount.
One other thing, the cost to install the ball joints and hubs as well (labor is not free, even your own).
