Okay so two days ago I bought a 2002 Ranger Edge 3.0L 54k Miles
I have the squeek from the front, only when its cold, safe to assume its the tensioner bearing??
The second thing is sometimes if I am on the gas a bit the power cuts out just for lets say a tenth of a second? The previous owner said he was changing the wires every six thousand miles and that fixed the problem. So basically the wires are arcing to the block. Does anyone know of wires I can buy for this motor that have the metal "gaurd" around the boot to solve this problem?
Sorry for the spelling I did this real quick before work. Thank you for your help everyone. Oh and I am new so "Hi"
If you can, carefully put a screwdriver against the tensioner bearing when it's cold, making sure to stay clear of all the rotating parts. Use a LONG screwdriver and then listen to the other end when the vehicle is cold. How long does it squeak for?
As for the wires, there's no way it should be going through wires that fast. At night, with all the lights off in a garage or some very dark location, can you see arcing in the wires?
So yesterday we changed the idler and the belt. Then I finally got under the thing and the squeeling was LOUD so poked around a bit and we figured out the throwout bearing or the pilot (which I doubt) is actually making the squeeling. If I pump the clutch rapidly it stops for a bit. So tonight is going to be a long night after work.
The problem with the wires is that it only does it once in a while and seems like when it is reved out a bit. It only does it once then not for awhile.
A lot of times, getting the wires wet will make them arc if they are suspect anyway. I'd suggest taking a spray bottle and spraying the wires in a dark location, that should help locate the problem.
Another possibility on your noise.. and I don't know what this would have to do with the clutch, but sometimes the bearing in the cam sensor synchronizer (goes where the distributor used to go at the rear of the engine) goes bad and can sound JUST LIKE a belt squeal type of noise.
Just make sure you mark the position of the synchronizer and the sensor PERFECTLY, as if it's off by more than a degree or two it can set a code and cause driveability problems, as this can screw up the fuel injector timing.
Okay so... I bought the truck from a friend of mine who needed to sell it quick due to personal issues. Turns out he towed a 18 foot tailgator to glamis with it, which in turn glazed the clutch. What a headache though so today I am throwing in a new clutch, I would have sworn up and down it was the belt but after changing that and the idler it still had the squeek.
I will let you know today when I trap the tranny if it was for sure that, but I have one more issue maybe someone can help me out cause I am stumped....
There is tranny fluid on the bottom of my truck and you can tell it is being "flung" but the yolk and the rear of the tranny is completly dry any ideas where the heck it is coming from???
Shift rail plugs? They are on top of the trans toward the rear, there are 3 of them, you should be able to feel around and find if they are the source or not, but they are a common place to develope a leak. Have you checked the level of your transmission fluid? If you have significant fluid loss it's possible you've damaged an input shaft bearing in the trans. Does it make the noise when sitting static running in gear with your foot on the clutch?
