Hi all, just bought a 2006 EB expedition. First thing that I have to do is hard wire my Ipod to the factory radio. Any one have any ideas? Hopefully I can do a search. I traded in a 2000 EB. I had an aftermarket cd/mp3 player and after market sub/amp. I need my Ipod...the fm transmitters stink.
welcome dave. i've got an ipod hard-wired to my 2000 eb. for my unit i just got something (aspec maybe? can't recall now) from best buy for around $70 that has two aux plugs and attaches to the rear of the factory head-unit where the cord from the cd changer would plug in.
this, of course means you can't use your cd changer, but who needs it with an ipod.
not sure if the same thing would work for your year though.
Thanks for the welcome. For some reason i cant use the search feature?? Says im not authorized? Anyway, Thanks for the ideas for the ipod. I think the 2006 factory radio and dvd entertainment system creates a problem for connecting the ipod. Crutchfield says they dont sell anything that works. Im looking around on the web now. I let you know what I find.
Do you have the NAV system? If you do I think you're SOL, like me. If it's the standard radio you might have some options. Check www.pie.net. They might have an ipod adapter or an AUX adapter that works with your radio.
OR, you can do what I did and use the DVD's RCA inputs to wire in your ipod (or satellite radio like I did). You can route the cable through the headliner, down the passenger"A" pillar, behind the glove box and to the center console.
It's the year 2006 and Ford can't add a simple mini-plug to their radios to accomodate technology that's been widely used for 5+ years.
Bridge, you are right on. Pie now makes a harness kit that allows up to 3 rca inputs. Cool. Im going to order it today. Im kind of curious how you were able to fish a line above the liner to the dvd? Is there a channel there? I have been plugging into the rca inputs temporarily...but just let the wire hang.
You also need one of these harnesses....I need the 16/24 one. I checked the back of the radio last night while installing my xm radio. I used the fm in line modulater....which ties into the radio antenna port.
