Greetings,
I just found this site and am hoping y'all can help. I have read this thread about vin numbers stamped on the frame rails.
I am looking for mine on a '58 F100 panel van so I can register it, but I'm getting the idea that you all have been talking about serial number stamps, not vin numbers. True or no? Either way, looks like I'm in for a steam cleaning to find anything.
Thanks
Not @ all, as what we are describing is indeed the VIN # & not a serial #.
These were located in 2 places & sometimes 3 places, on the DATA Plate inside the Dishpatch Box Door or mounted on the Driverside Door Frame & Stamped onto the Frame Rail around the Firewall on the Passenger side of the truck.
You'll have to do some scrubbing in order to find it on the Frame Rail, because of all the Road Grime covering it after all these years.
I found the serial/VIN number on the inside of the glove box door on my 1960 F100 truck. I wasn't sure if this number was correct and finally found the same number stamped on the passenger side frame rail near the front axle. It was not easy to see and I ended up using sandpaper on the top of the frame rail. The engine is out of my truck at the moment so I was able to crawl in there with a bright light and finally found it. Remember that your panel van is almost 50 years old and it may take some time to find it.
Good luck and let us know how you made out.
That's where I found mine. I guess it has to be available in a location that DMV or law enforcement officials can readily find it. I've also read that it's stamped on the top frame rail under the cab and under the truck box.
Good luck!
