I was out running some arronds and as I was driving I put the car in park by accident(dont ask). I know you may be wondering, WTF? Well It did not seem to cause any damage. I slowed down to a stop and put it back to drive and it kept going. Kept shifting through all the gears the rest of the day and it seemed to be fine. When I did this I heard a loud rachetting sound. Any trany specialists out there that may know what exactly I may have done to the trany? I am assuming the gear didnt even take because of the motion of the vehicle.
The park pin is spring loaded, once the vehicle slows enough, the sprig will snap the park pin into place. in your case, you did not slow enough for this to happen.
You have suffered no damage that you need to be worried about.
Thanks fellas that made me feel a bit better. Can this potentially decrease the life of the transission? Or, will having sheered a bit of the pawl cause my truck to come out of park when parked. Did it affect any of the other gears? Thanks again fellas.
Great info fellas. Thank You. I am headed up to Alaska next month, do you recommend any special type of oil? I know there is a special kind of coolant to use for cold weather, anyone know the type?
standard fill 50% and 50% distilled water. this will generally be good to -45, but get it checked, unless you have flushed the coolant it should already have some.
