Broken rear door latch

Hello, new member with a problem.

I just recently purchased a used (2002) F250 SD V10 XLT extended cab. The problem, rear door latch on drivers side is broken and will not release on bottom. Have purchased a new latch assembly but cannot get the door open to install the assembly.

any ideas or secrets to getting this darned bottom lastch to disengage?

Pull the plastic door panel off and look for a cable or rod. If you find one going to the lower latch, try pushing or pulling it until the door opens.

Yeah, been there done that. latch will not release, have tried manipulating with various tools to make it manually release to no avail. (latch is in an awkward location, BTW)
latch seems to be a two stage affair and will not realease that second stage (so to speak)

If you have released the first stage, push on the door while playing with the latch. Unless the second stage has pressure against it, it will not release.

yup, tried that too. any idea where i can find some kind of diagram or exploded view of the latch assembly so i can see what might be keeping it from disengaging?
