i have a 1998 ford single cab 4x4 with a 4.6 liter and a 5speed. now everytime it rains my truck acts funny my gauges, interior lights, door locks, and head lamps go crazy. now i had a leaky windshield but that was fixed. and the problem still exists. now when my truck is possesed like this nothing turns off when the key is off. so is this in my steering column? or under the hood where things get wet? or can it be from the already exposed to water before fuse box in the dash. oh yeah also my starter kicks in when the clutch is pushed in, so i pull the fuse so its still drive able.
Yes, your GEM module which controls these fuctions has been shorted by water. It is located behind the fuse panel. Common problem when the windshield leaks.
just like the other guys said. It sounds like a short. Look in your fuse panel. I've known a blow dryer to work but dont overheat anything. You just need to stop the water from joining 2fuses
I seemed to have fixed my truck, untill it rains again. So with my truck running fine and all fuses fixed. will i have too change my GEM? Or will mine hold up? if i just fix the leak and prevent it from getting wet again.

You'll probably end up replacing both of them.
at least your tuck doesnt try to start by itself when there is no key in the ignition. i thought i sealed the water leak, apparently not as im woken up at midinight to see that my truck has become knightrider and starts on its own, at least tries too.
haha i think mine would try that too but its a manual and the clutch needs to be in. seems to be runing fine now thats its dry. where did your truck leak from. if i fixed my windsheild leak where else could my GEM be geting wet from? any ideas?
just read this post today.god! i thought those elect problems in the rain went out with the old dodges.my 1970 polara would not run right if there was a rain cloud within 100 miles.lol.
i completly resealed my entire windshield and then ext day it started acting up again, lights flashing on and off, trying to start on its own. now when ever its in neutral or park the starter is cranking the most obnoxious sound ever. im trding mine in soon and using it as a down payment on a lightning. i dont know what else to do seeing as it would cost more to fix than the money i would get for my truck
a lighning must be nice, haha thats not a truck you would drive when its wet anyway haha jk, well i hope mine is okay, ill just have to find where its getting wet from the floor or maybe the firewall. well see next rain, I might have to trade it in too.
