I was driving home from work this evening and it has been raining for a few hours, so there is quite a bit of water on the road combined with extreme drought conditions, the roads were slick, so I was using 4WD and I switched my O/D off. Drove to the house, shifted into Park, reached up and pushed the O/D button and the cluster died. Truck still runs, just no cluster. I assume it blew fuse 35, but I will check it out when it stops raining tomorrow. Thoughts?
Maybe that fuse was weak or something? Can fuses get weak? I just don't understand what would cause it to do that. I fixed the chaffed O/D wire in the column a while back. I have never had this happen before. Hopefully it will be an isolated incident.
Maybe some water got in somewhere. I decided to hose down my F150s engine one time. Shorted out ALLLL kinds of stuff. Gauges were partially lit, honking flashed the high beams (yes, it was as comical as it sounds haha). Thankfully nothing vital was lost, and over time it fixed itself.
Later that night the truck was totaled due to an unrelated matter, so I never got to resolve it completely...
Okay, I investigated today and it was fuse #45 that was blown. The manual lists it as 'Ignition switch Start/Run feed'. I replaced the fuse with a new 10A, and the cluster came to life. As soon as I switched the O/D off, the fuse blew again. I tried a 15A and then repeated the above, and it didn't blow. Then I removed the 15A and put in a new 10A, and it didn't blow. I left the 10A in there and switched the O/D on and off many times, and no fuse blown. It seems to be fixed.
