6.0 slow ? maybe for a viper

i would say i have heard of the 03-04 having problems..
i have a 03 f350 , with a few mods . like
1) air box
2) lite exhaust work , cat delete and walker muffler
3) Dfuser fuel tuner and let me say
WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this truck hauls butt... i have spanked a many of stock 5.0 mustang's
and other trucks with ease ... friend that has a chevy with the 8.L gas engine in his truck and a another friend that has a 95 mustang 5.0 with exhaust work.
now i know thats not like the fastest things out there, but i walked by them with no problem... so thats not bad for a 1 ton 4wd truck.

[QUOTE=powerstroked162]lol, my 7.3 is pretty heavily modded. many a 6.0s have met there match.

Well you have obviously you have never met "The Granny Truck"!!! A truck that is mainly stock except the programmer and the exhaust. Make sure you can back what say about spanking 6.0L PSD until you meet them all!!!

p.s. my first 03 6.0 burnt to the ground on a electric issue of some kind... 2nd one seems to be a good truck.

Ok so an '05 or newer and i should be safe, correct? do the '05's have the coil over front? or are they still leaf sprung?

Whats the best bet tranny wise? i love a stick, but love the convenience of an auto. So whats the way to go? can you still haul more with a stick or is it the other way around?

Whats the gear ratio in the rear end?

Auto beable to hold up to a chip and Injects from Beans? especially while pulling?

How are the brakes on the new 6.0s? hopefully greatly improved from the 7.3 era brakes.

Thank you gentlemen so much for your time and your effort in helping another ford owner shop for a new rig. It is greatly appreciated

BTW-

you get what you get.... i have a 6.0 year is 03.... it stops good with a trailer, but just as a truck i have found that they do not stop all that fast...they are a heavy truck as is the case with most diesel trucks .if you chip it and plain on towing you asking for trouble...i have mine chipped but unplug it when i pull trailers. it has lots of power and do not need the chip for that. i use it when i am not pulling so the truck has that spunk to it. i do beleave in 05 or 06 they when to coil springs not sure what year. i have a auto trans and the part i like about that is that it knows when you are being pushed by your trailer and locks in so that you engine becomes a brake. works great, you have to be in tow haul for this to work.

Answers to your Q's

I'll try to avoid the flaming and stick to your Q's :

Whats the gear ratio in the rear end? 3.73 for SRW, and higher, 4.10 or 4.30 for DRW

Auto beable to hold up to a chip and Injects from Beans? especially while pulling? More likely to have head gasket failure than trans failure (at least until the gaskets were changed in MY'06)

How are the brakes on the new 6.0s? hopefully greatly improved from the 7.3 era brakes. Awesome, yes they were improved again in '05+ SDs

Thank you gentlemen so much for your time and your effort in helping another ford owner shop for a new rig. It is greatly appreciated
