What a Surprise

After getting the water pump off I snaped this pic of the gasket. I was not expecting this much silicate built up. The coolant filter was very dirty also after only 3 months of service (1st change since install).

Oreilly's 149.00

The reman was 99 but I didnt want to take the chance. I was also very greatful not to see any pitting on the front cover and not break any t-stat housing bolts or have the power go out. LOL, HAHAHAHA

lol funny man you are after breaking my bolts and a lot of cussing to get them out i asked my locale napa how much for a water pump..260 they told me..ouch..maybe i should order one now and put it on the shelf for later..good thing for the filter system huh?? makes me think i better get my butt in gear and order one of them too..BUT!!!! i think my tranny is on its way out..when i bought the truck last feb..1st thing i did was smell trany..it was good. when i did my bts vb i noticed a faint burnt smell..then noticed shavings on the magnet..went a head and did the valve body any ways..now im noticing slippage in the trans in the 80 econo tune..

Looks great Alan, I may have to follow suit. I'm at 152,000 on my original pump, no leaks as of yet.

Filter was probably loaded within a couple of daysof the initial installation. I wouldn't go more than a month or two on the new filter with the new pump. After that it should be an annual service.

Alen, I'm doing my water pump today. Anything that I should know to make the job go smoother or easier? I would love to pull my body off the frame like in the cracked injector sleeve post but I don't have my lift yet. How many hours did I take?

Mikey - Once you get the degass battle, Fan, and shroud off There is plenty of room. Be care full when removing the t-stat housing bolts they can have a tendency to break and get some Permetex "The Right Stuff" the housing does not like to reseal.

Scott - I did a complete flush when I put the filter in and did not get much "Sand" out when I did, so I was not expecting as dirty a filter as I found. I think I am going to replace it in another 3 months just to be safe.
