need a little help

hey got a question i got an early 99 but it was when they started tranfering over to the late 99 which is wierd because its build date is 10-17-98 and well it has the new injectors but the old turbo. anyway my question is i put on my 4' exhaust and my intake and i put on a tuner which my brother bought me for a present and well with the tuner all the way on performance around 1700-1800 you have the turbo start to whistle but then goes away until around 2400. i was wondering if anyone has had this problem or any ideas. i was thinking that it could be either a leak at a boot or turbo stall but i has no boost gauge yet so i dont know about the stall im going out to see if i can tell where the first whistle is coming from and or find the leaking boot. any suggestions would be great.

PS im also a college kid on limited funds.

Does it run fine despite the whistle? Will it do it without the chip? May not be a boost leak but that is always something good to check on. If you had a boost leak it would be across the board.

No boost gauge, but do you have a pyro? Unusually high temps will help tell you if you have a boost and/or exhaust leak. Boost gauge would be handy in this situation to monitor what it's doing during the entire rpm range.

When the whistle goes away, do you hear a whoosh ing or fluttering type sound? You maybe getting tirbo surge.

i finally got the chance to take the tuner down and it still does it im still thinking that it might be a boost leak. i dont have a pyro or boost still. it sometimes makes a whoosh but its very faint if it does.

Be careful without an EGT guage when you use the programmer/tuner. It's realy easy to get over 1250 degrees with the higher HP settings. The turbo whistle could be normal since it sounds like you installed a more free flowing air intake system and now you can hear it better. But it is difficult to diagnose over the internet without an EGT guage. You ussually will run higher temps and puff black smoke with a boost leak.

Again, get them guages ASAP before you burn something up.....
