i am thinking about upgrading to a bigger alternator for my 90 2.9L. i was just wondering if you can put too big of an alternator on or not.
heres the one im looking at: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
imo, Total waste of $500 unless you are running a very high amp stereo or winch because this alternator will not make more then a 100 amp Ford alternator at or near idle. The 90+ amps do not kick in until about 2k RPMs, depending on pulley size. So, you will still need a very big battery or two to be effective.
if you need that kinda power put a yellow top battery cause they are great for high output sound systems and just a hevey duty altenater cause you just need somthing that wont burn up under that kinda load thats what i did and it still works good after a year of hard abuse
