hard power steering only to the right

My sons 1993 F-250 4X4, steering wheel is very hard to turn and somewhat jerky, but only when turning to the right. The power steering reservoir is full. We are not sure begin on this repair and your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like something is binding up. Could be a pitman arm, an idler arm, IT may even be your steering gear. the best thing to do is jack the front of the truck up and turn the wheel lock to lock while someone watches underneath watch for binding, and listen for grinding or moaning. Try it with the truck off and with the engine running this will help eliminate where the problem is.

d79 thanks for the reply.
Our F-250 is running a big set of Super Swampers and this truck is off roaded on a weekly basis. After the last trip to the sand dunes at Piamo Beach CA. The steering got worse, we will try your suggestion to lift and test with the motor on and off. After we test, I will post the results. I wonder if anyone else has suffered these same symptoms, hard sterring only one way.

Have a 1990 F250 4X4 dsl with the same problem. Haven't checked into it too much yet. I use the truck every day and am afraid to tear into it and have it down too long.

I'll go with all of the above, and add..
check belt & tensioner (and I don't wanna hear "it looks OK" - get down there and crank on the stupid thing and see if it moves freely and isn't too "springy")

take the belt off and check it for glazing

all that being said, sounds like the spool valve in the gearbox is leaking...

Yep, I vote for the spool valve.

Thanks, I think this will help. At least i'm not afraid of the down time.
I've heard some talk of flywheel problems with the older deisels. Any thoughts or info would be appreciated.

I have a 94.5 F-350 power stroke and I am also having the same problem.....VERY hard to turn to the right but easy to the left. I jacked up the truck and turned the wheels back and forth both running and not running. Both directions are easy. While not running I have power steering fluid shooting out of the breather hole on the pump cap. is that normal?

Sorry for the hi-jack but I am very happy to find the helpful info on this post

Thanks again for any aditional info
