Vloney, I think you are right but Ford dropped the ball big time with the 6.0 I mean look at a superduty next to a Dodge or Chevy. There is just no comparison. 9 out of ten people would pick the Ford based on looks alone. Ford's chassis and suspension is without equal for those that want a work/towing vehicle. GM only appeals to those looking for a car like ride. If Ford had an answer to the LBZ Dmax (hopefully the 6.4 comes through), GM would be in deep deep trouble in the Large pick up market. The bad rep of the 6.0 has cost Ford a lot of sales. I bought my superduty in spite of the 6.0 as I believed the bugs were worked out and so far that is proving to be true.
The reason Ford is losing money is the same reason gm is losing money. Fords problems started with purchasing jaguar, volvo, aston martin, land rover, then dealing with the firestone recall. Any of these can be absorbed by a large company, but put them all together at the same time with the economy going south, and investing too heavily in SUVs, pickups, and gas guzzlers. The problems associated with the 6.0 are actually a drop in the bucket.
Yes I agree with you 100% but then put Fords lack of customer service and poorly trained techs and it gets even worse. OK I know there are good techs out there so please don't get your undies in a wad. Two of the three dealers I have dealt with coudn't fix a hole in a paper bag if you handed them the tape.
Most of the 6.0L issues are probably not even the techs fault. Its Fords fault for putting out a product to soon and useing their customers as lab rats till they figured out how to make the damn thing run right.

The most annoying thing about the 6.0 to me (and my 2006 runs great, I want to make that clear) Is #1 Why they kept the displacement so low, going from a 7.3 to 6.0 Way too drastic and defies common sense when they were trying to up hp/torque #2 the head design. A little overkill instead of not quite enough to get by would have saved a lot of money and reputation. Hopefully the genius responsible for the 6.0 disaster has been canned and new blood has worked on the 6.4 The turbo/egr issues you can almost justify, but the displacement/head problems are just dumb.
I'll agree on the problems with the heads. i would think that contracts with navistar would be the deciding factor in why this motor was released in its present form. The displacement question would be best described by wanting to lessen emissions. Thats what happened to the 460, and the 302. With navistar having the vt365 readily available, it was just a logical choice for the next motor. It is designed for the cab forward trucks (thats why everything is on the rear of the motor)
