I was at Home Depot a few minutes ago and picked up four gallons of Shell Rotella T 15W40 for my '95 Powerstroke. When the check out lady began to ring up my purchase, a recall notice came up on her register screen and she said "I can't sell that to you, it's been recalled by the manufacture."
I haven't heard of this before and thought I would pass it along to you guys. I don't know if the 5W40 synthetic is also being recalled or not.
I will check further at the Shell site and get back to you.
Please post what you find, I just changed my oil last week from oil I got on clearance at .......You guessed it, HOME DEPOT!!!! I thought for 5 bucks a gallon, how do you screw up oil, esp Shell oil.
I think they just pulled the old oil off of the shelves that doesn't comply with the new
API CJ-4 service standard. I wouldn't be concerned about the oil you have.
Gene, I read you're post about the recall which prompted me to write shell oil and ask about any known recalls for Rotella oil. I 've used it for 15 years in my commercial truck and the last 6 years in my powerstoke. You had me concerned. A senior chemist responded stating there were no recalls for oil quality issues, the recall at Home Depot was due to leaking containers. He assured me the oil quality was as good as it has always been, hope this helps.
Good to hear that. I didn't think there was anything wrong with the oil. I thought that they were probably pulling it to replace it with the oil meeting the new standard or to put a label on the old containers warning against using it in new engines or something like that.
i would have never expected the response that you received about the recall. Thanks for following up on it and letting us know.
