3rd row seat - removable?

I have seen some pics that seem to show the third row either gone or perhaps really, really flat when folded, and it almost looks like it is pretty much pushed all the way forward into the space where the second row must have been before it was folded up. Is that the case, or can you actually remove the third row completely?

You can remove it totally.

You can also fold it down.

You can also fold it down and prop it up forward. Although, you'll need something to hold it there.

Find the owners manual for your year here:

OWNERS MANUALS

There is a section called Seating and Safety Restraints

Everything you need to know how to remove it is there.

As far as the prop rod, Check the link below.

I lean my 3rd row up against the 2nd row all the time and don't use anything to hold it in place. It has never fallen back down.

So. You want a cookie or sumthin'?

I never do that to mine but would probably use a piece of wood to secure it.

I lean it forward and use a bungee cord to secure it to the head rest on the second row seat.

I have "Official Excursion" tie-down bungee cords for sale at the low FTE price 39.00 ($save $10.00 off the $49.00). Do not be confused... these are "official" bungee cords that I bought at Walmart and "deemed them official" as this is what you get if your willing to pay me $39.00/ea.

They are priced as eaches as you only need one of them!!!!

That bar holder thingy takes up valuable cargo space in the rear.... what a waste of money!!!!!!!

Now taking orders.....

(Man, I sure hope a sucker is born every minute after I post this... I need the extra income).

Man! My X is a 2001, too bad you can't help me out. I'll gladly volunteer my X, if your product development team ever has time to work with the earlier models.

Ooops... a mistake.

I meant to type '00 - '06 Excursion Specialist!!!

Well, we can custom make and ship to you for your '01... no problem... I'll just have them re-cut a new bungee to fit (no extra charge)!!!!

I use a nylon 'lashing strap'. The adjustable kind with the vinyl coated hooks. The hooks on the outer headrest standards on the second row seats, with the strap secured aroud the upright third row seat and cinched down. Doesn't budge.

I use industrial strength glue. By simply gluing the botttom edge of the third seat and the back of the second row together I am assured that the seat will not fall. However, just to make sure I also use a couple of rolls of duct tape wrapped around both seats, followed by 12 5" leather straps wrapped longways around the two seats. Finally shrinkwrapping both really helps.

Cement was my first choice but after using it twice I realized that it took too long to dry and its weight ate in to my cargo capacity.

EDIT: Oh wait...I already said I didn't ever put mine up. Darn...smart aleck reply ruined!

True... the last model year was 2005... and few were bought in 2006 as November '05 was the last build date.

However, if someone is dumb enough to by my "Custom Excursion Seat Straps"... then they will not know, care, or be smart enough to really know that '05 was the last model year.

yes, you are 100% correct. just remember, if they build it, someone will buy it. its just one of theose things that people with a half of a brain wouldn't have the common sense to think of some way of holding the seat up. hmmmm, i wonder if they make something like that to keep my tailgate down on my other truck. when i have it down, and i hit a big dune, it bounces hard. oh yeah, i guess i could close the tailgate....
