desktop dyno request

alright i need someone to run this on thier desktop dyno.
a 390 bored .060" over which would give me a 4.11" bore with a 428 crank which will give me a 3.98" stroke which in turn will yield 422 cubic inches.
TRW L2291 pistons
D2 heads ported and polished
crane powermax CRN 343901 cam
.020" Mr. Gasket head gaskets
HV oil pump
stock 4 barrel intake
roller timing chain
holley 650 cfm
stock exhaust manifolds
thanks in advance
Dustin

Well this sounds like a job for Kurt...I dont have your flow chart for your heads...and your putting this money in Ported heads and using stock Logs? WTF...

I would run it on the EA3, but there's not enouigh info for me to put in the Data logger...

This motor cannot be built. The pistons would be .086" above deck. If you shaved them so they were even with the deck, the compression would be waaaay too high for that cam and the motor would then ping itself to death.

you need low compression 390 pistons IIRC.. the 2291 has a lower wrist pin 1.76 I think, versus a 1.66 for the 390's???

I figured the .086" using 390 rods! I hope you weren't considering using 360 rods...

You need different pistons. I think I need to clarify something. There were basically two different compression height pistons used in 390's. One was the 1.76 to about 1.78" compression height. The other was the 1.66 to 1.68". The latter is essentially a 410 piston used in trucks for lower compression. As you're essentially building a .060" oversize 410, those are the pistons you want. Those L2291 pistons, while good pistons, have a 1.776" compression height, and will cause the problems I mentioned earlier.

The pistons that would work good in that motor are Silvolite part number 1139. They have a 9.5cc dish, and would give you about 10:1 static compression ratio. I would also change cam selection to a 343941, so your dynamic compression isn't too high. Even then, you'll have to be a bit conservative with the timing.

Definately run headers.

Assuming a decent home porting job, by no means the super max effort porting, but still assuming you know what you're doing, Desktop Dyno indicates:

415hp @ 5000rpm
472ft-lbs @ 3500rpm

Should be a fun motor...

Oh, and dont worry about that cam. I've got one in my 390, and it is VERY daily driveable. With the longer stroke it'll work even better.

Again, it depends, in a huge way, on the quality of the porting and polishing work you do.

well as for the porting. i have never done it before. but i work for a man in one of his three shops(machine and engine building shops) and a guy i know who workedfor my previous and now my present employer is gonna teach me on a crappy set of heads then let me do my own. and he has been in this business for alot of years and has several years of experience. he is a good guy. found me my crank for free. and a set of the C3 heads.

well nice find on the heads C3's are hard to come by!! are they the small chamber or the larger chamber? 56cc for the 406 and 67cc's for the 390..

They will build alot of Compression!! a very good stock type race head with the small chamber's!

Good Luck....

PS..if you find that the C3's will make too much compression for your needs..I'll trade you some big port larger chamber heads for them!!

Well your going to have to find out what CC's the heads are to be able to properly set-up your shortblock for pistons, and gaskets, piston to deck height in order for you to figure out a compression ratio...

The guy thats going to teach you head porting that has been doing it for years ..should have a CCing Flask, there another word for it..But you get the point..

Because you need to know where your at..before you can plan where your going? LOL
