I dunno, synthetic mud may look better in some cases, but real mud just feels better, IMHO.
Real mud is also an American tradition and using synthetic mud can only lead us down a slippery slope.
Come on man, embrace the technology. I mean, your grandparents probably had a typewriter, but you're not sitting in front of one right now. Besides, the synthetic mud is more environmentally friendly, it lasts a lot longer so we're not exhausting our natural mud resources. Let's all try to save some of the real mud for future generations to enjoy.
I feel that bowing out of this maelstrom of controversy, prior to any real mud-slinging, may be in my best interests. I say let Mike Deason resolve this through actual scientific evaluation. May the best mud win!
Wasn't but just a few weeks ago I tried the fake synthetic fuel that looks and smells like the real McCoy but after running a couple of tanks I calculated that although the fuel mileage was very close to the real deal (I actually got .3 more MPG while running posted highway speeds) and the transport cost of delivery for the multiple cases of aerosol cans was very close to that of pump diesel the local government mandated recycling cost and 48 per cent tax *per can* tipped the scales four fold toward the use of the real thing ... and the use of a good fuel additive is still recommended. I personally believe the coloration is off by a little and something just wasn't quite right with the smell.
Anyway, Mike be sure to check the fine print and details because although it *may* seem like a good deal on the outside there may be hidden cost parameters that may keep you from shying away from the fake mud. Also check your local laws for the use of fake mud on a vehicle, we had a fellow down here get a hefty fine for "Defacing an off road vehicle by applying synthetic material not pursuant to local laws" Sec. 64-2 paragraph 11 ... evidently it's been on the books since the early '60s. A fellow down the street was telling me it stemmed from the fake flower decals that were placed on Volkswagen Beetles back in the day.
I know sometimes some things *may* seem like a free ride but typically whenever things are said and done it is very difficult to beat the real deal.
Good luck.

The best deal I've found for the mud is at this Norwegian site. If you convert Norwegian Krones to US $$$, you will see that there is a significant savings buying the mud from the Nordics (depending on shipping).
It's been four years since I last washed my truck not including rain or snow. I would like to try the spray on that I may always have a "fresh" appearance so as not to have an "old dried up" look.
Questions;
How much will be needed?
Is there an extra thick application for underneath?
Do I have to bathe before applying?
Do I have to bathe after applying?
I just don't want to bathe, much less wash my truck!
Racerguy--this was a "clean" mud thread until you started slinging mud. As a dedicated AMSmud user, and using bypass filtration, I find that I actually get 3.2 mpg less with the synthetic mud than without. This is much more less mpg than AMSmud advertises. I fail to see the humor in your post. Should you want proof, I have records going back 6,250,000 miles without an overhaul, that show the effectiveness of the AMSmud program.
i can't believe this thread went to 3 pages and probably a lot more, lol that's funny!
the EPA wouldn't like it if we took mud from one region and sold it to someone in another region because we'll have cross soil contamination and then the fed's will get involved and this site will be shut duwn. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
