I posted this in the wrong section earlier...Just kinda new here and can't search the forums for some reason. I am sure that this has been covered, but what kind of performance is achieved from the simple little mods like a boost tube $10 and a dual refief valve $40? They seem like such cheap and minor mods that I wonder if they are worth the time?
The boost tube is an old school method of keeping the wastegate shut longer. I think you'll get the same results from just unplugging the red line at the wastegate, unless the actuator is weak, in which case the boost will just force it open, anyway. I'd say skip the boost tube.
The dual relief valve is a means of fooling the map sensor so it doesn't see over 22 or 23 psi, in which case it will set the SES light and defuel the truck for "overboost." The map regulator setup like I have does the same thing, as does the electronic version like sp-diesel sells. The relief valve or either of the other two options are only needed if you add fuel via injectors or a programmer/tuner/chip, because you'll then be seeing the higher boost numbers that will set off the map sensor.

Hello John, Welcome to FTE. You have come to the right place.... sit down and relax, read through the forums some to get some good information. The boost tube is somewhat of a gimmick i think. The same thing can be achieved for free, with a few minutes of your time. However unplugging the red line, and putting the elbow-boot thing on a bolt for an intercooler pipe will change how the turbo responds, due to effectively limiting the wastegate. You only need the relief valve if you have a modified engine (tuner or chip), and you can get your boost up to 22-24psi. I had a relief valve, and i upgraded to a Regulator. It is far more effective, and it's smooth flow to the sensor. Before, the valve would load up and dump pressure repeatedly several times. You could watch the boost gauge (i had one plumbed near the valve) and every time it would open and close, you could see the gauge jump around.
